Good Night's Sleep

One, Two, Three, Zzzz!
Counting-Sheep.jpgIsn't it funny how as kids, taking a nap was one of the worst things in the world? Why would we want to sleep when we could be playing outside or watching TV? As adults, sleeping is the one thing we desire ... but with our hectic lives it gets pushed to the backburner. Lack of sleep can do more than hinder your day to day function, it can also impact your health. As a chiropractor, I recognize a good night's sleep is one of the most significant things you can do to live a healthy life along with a proper diet and exercise. But, there is something else you do need ... and that is a properly functioning nervous system and of course ... good posture! Although, there are many medications available it may not get to the underlying root cause of sleeping issues which is an imbalance in nerve energy. Are you tired of not knowing why you're having trouble sleeping? Well, I've got some shut eye information and a solution for you! What if I told you Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care can help improve your sleepless night's?
How can Chiropractic Care help you sleep better?
A subluxation in the upper neck may be the reason you're having trouble sleeping! Your brainstem is part of the brain that dips down into the top part of your upper neck where nerve cells activate portions of your brain which produce wakefulness and sleep. When there's an irritation or friction of the brainstem area by a subluxation it can cause disruption in the function of  these specific nerve pathways. This can result in upper neck and back pain, postural changes, breathing issues, and sleeping problems. When a person has suffered from an accident or injury it can create weakness, breakdown, and lock the upper neck into an unhealthy stressed position. This can be a progressive condition ... and the longer the spine is left in this state the worse it gets. This friction or pressure of the brainstem is the underlying cause of the sleep problems in so many of our patients!Regular chiropractic adjustments can help restore proper nerve supply, reduce muscles tension, spasms, and improve blood flow in the nervous system allowing the body to be more at ease and relaxed. After getting adjustments, our patients have reported they've felt an improvement in their sleep and greater life satisfaction.f7c858de-56ef-4824-ba1c-e1183cf4480d.gifHow can you tell whether or not your sleeping problem is caused by this? Set a daily routine! It's best to wake up and go to sleep the same time every day.Take a warm shower before bed and read a book, it can help relax and make it easier to fall asleep.Avoid eating dinner after 6 in the evening, drinking alcohol, and caffeine before sleep!Keep it just right ... The ideal bedroom temperature for sleeping is between 65 and 72 degrees. Too hot or too cold will make it harder to get a good night's sleep.Investing in a good supportive mattress and pillow that supports your spine.Lastly, Shhh ... keep it quiet! The quieter the environment you sleep in the less distraction to the body's rest mechanism.serta-3-sleeping-sheep1.jpg
